Watering

Transplanting squashes

Use pole shovel to dig hole, add compost and soak with spray. Spray jet edges and remove any weed roots that appear Helps mix in compost. Fill hole to brim and allow to level to settle a little. Mix in some earth and plant seedling with root ball into hole to correct depth. Make sure have root ball as this reduces transplant shock. Wash any soil off leaves with gentle spray.

Kumara

Plant in J with tail towards the sun.

Transplanting

Loosen plant in tray - keep soil around root to reduce shock Stick trowel in 45 degrees and pull back, drop in plants If dry then fill hole with water before dropping in plants Gently press down around stalk to firm up roots Plant at correct depth, usually at level of first leaves. This reduces effect of wind on plant, as this can loosen roots. Transplant tomatoes quite deep and horizontally to encourage rooting. Water everything in - like gentle rain Transplant in evening when its cooler to reduce stress on transplant
